It’s Labor Day. Get to Work.

Not everyone is sitting around the pool today, grilling the last sausages of the summer.  Here are some of the people who work on Labor Day and their average pay (the mean wage for all occupations in the U.S. in 2013 was $22.33 per hour, or $44,640 a year):

    • Fast food cooks – $18,870
    • Amusement park workers – $20,310
    • Waiters and waitresses – $20,880
    • Lifeguards – $20,890
    • Supermarket cashiers – $23,450
    • Telemarketers – $25,830
    • Nursing assistants – $26,020
    • Truck drivers – $36,970
    • Radio and television broadcast technicians – $41,630
    • Prison guards – $44,350
    • Waste treatment plant operators – $45,070
    • Police officers – $58,720
    • Power plant operators – $67,230
    • Registered nurses – $68,910
    • Lawyers – $131,990
    • Major league baseball players – $3,390,000
    • Baseball stadium concession workers – $11,000*

Most of those who work on Labor Day have to work, for their own sake as much as ours.
