Is Barack Obama the most naïve man in America? I’m certainly not the first to pose this question.  Hillary Clinton, the presidential candidate, called Barack Obama naïve for saying he would meet with leaders of rogue nations without preconditions.  And now, Obama is proposing to meet with Republican Party leaders in hopes of achieving “common ground” legislation (the polite phrase for watered-down crap).  If he believes the Republicans will agree with him on anything, he is indeed the Gomer Pyle of our time.

Maya Angelou (via Oprah) warned, “When people show you who they are, believe them, the first time.”  Republican Senator Mitch McConnell was very believable, at least to me, when he said his party’s most important goal was to make Obama a one-term President.  Obama would be wise to believe him too, but I am not counting on it.

It is tiresome hearing a man talk but never quite getting around to telling you what he believes in or doing anything about it.  From Guantanamo to “Don’t Ask Dont Tell” to Green Jobs to true health care reform (what we have now is simply legislative sausage), Obama has not delivered on core principles and promises.  Yes, I know, we have been in a recession, but does that mean that principle is put aside and deal-making is all there is?

I used to scoff at the “values” candidates the Republicans would trot out every four years, but now I see some value in “values”.  I thought I had voted for a Democrat for President in 2008, but I guess I was wrong.  Makes me wonder if I should finally apologize to my wife for not voting for Hillary way back when.

In 1773, American colonists dressed as “Indians” boarded three British ships in Boston and tossed chests of tea overboard rather than pay tax on it.

Today, activist Republicans dressed as “Ordinary Americans” have mounted an effort to toss President Obama overboard.  This so-called Tea Party claims to be angry at government, but the real goal is to make Obama fail and drive Obama from office.

Mark my words: within 45 days of the inauguration of the 45th President, you will be watching the story “Whatever Became of the Tea Party?” on the “CBS Evening News with Jon Stewart”.
