Remember back in fifth grade when you had to memorize the names of the U.S. Presidents in the order they held office?  Presidents #10 to #15 could be recalled using the mnemonic, “Tyler Polked Taylor, Fillmore Pierced Buchanan.”  Here’s a similar way to remember the people who won’t be President.  It begins, “Bachmann Cained Perry…”

As some of you may have noticed, several weeks ago I started an experiment and added Google AdSense to this blog.  You can see the ads at the bottom of the sidebar.  I am not allowed to ask you to click on the ads or draw attention to them or I will be violating the Terms of Service.  So please don’t look at them or click on them unless you’re really, really interested in the product.  So far, no one has clicked on any ad here, so I’m safe for now.

Briefly, the way this works is, Google scans your website, does an analysis of its content, then automatically feeds context-sensitive ads to your web page.  The premise is that people visiting the site will be vulnerable — I mean, will be likely to click on ads that are closely related to the content of the site.  After all, you are here to shop, right?

I have found it mildly amusing to see what type of ads Google decides to serve up to the readers of The 100 Billionth Person.  It reveals Google’s idea of what my blog is about and what kind of audience Google thinks it attracts.  I guess I will keep displaying the ads until I tire of their limited entertainment value, or until Google tires of the lack of response.

Hindu New Year is April 15 this year, so I’m a little early.  But here are my resolutions:

• Stop talking back to the TV, even (and especially) when Dr. Phil is on.

• Better yet, walk out of the room when Dr. Phil is on.

• Make a more concerted effort to get together with friends, past and present.

• Take some damn lessons finally so I can play some golf without losing a half-dozen balls.

• Pick up the camera now and again, walk around town and shoot, then have some lunch.  It might make me feel like an artist.

• Make a meaningful contribution to NPR.

• Lose 12 pounds in 2012 as a prelude to losing another 13 pounds in 2013.  The idea is to stay healthy, so as to fully enjoy and engage in what our world has to offer.

• Fix that creaking floor next to the closet.  They say that every time you eliminate one of life’s little annoyances, an angel gets its wings.

• Devote more time to good books and cut my losses with bad books.  I have a tendency to slog through bad books as if there were some kind of prize at the end.

• I will give my wife more kisses than last year.

• I will vote for Obama no matter what I think of his accomplishments or lack of them, because I know the alternatives are worse and I cannot be slave to principle.

• Whenever I write a new post for this blog, I resolve to consider: will someone enjoy reading this?  And then I will go ahead and post it anyway.

As Yoko said, let’s hope it’s a good one, without any fear.
