The Valley Independent (Monessen)      

These were the Sixth Street (Monessen) offices of The Valley Independent, a newspaper with a long history but whose presence on Sixth Street dated from 1961.  The Valley Independent ended operations in this building in September, 1967.  Its final edition was published on the last day of 2015.  You may note that the Monessen Chamber of Commerce offices were (at some point) next door to the newspaper, for what that was worth.

I love the design of the font.  I love the earnestness of the globe-and-compass insignia.  I adore how the facade of the newspaper office was tucked underneath the adjoining apartments.   And I lament the loss of community newspapers.
