Hypatia (2014)
Hypatia of Alexandria was a mathematician and astronomer in Egypt in the late 300s – early 400s. She is generally regarded as having been a genius. According to most accounts, she was murdered for religious reasons.
The painting was done with acrylics on 12-inch by 18-inch canvas. The foreground was painted first — the rest of the painting almost demanded itself. The pearlescent stars represent a real sky — I chose a North American sky in May, our wedding anniversary month.
Most of all, I am happy that the owner of this painting is happy with it.
