Excerpt from a letter Lawrence wrote sometime in late 1976 — on 24-staff manuscript paper! I had no idea that he had an interest in programming, something else we had in common. – CHC
It had been my intention to write for some time. Believe me — I think of you often, even though I have almost abandoned writing for other means of expression — most especially music. I wrote a piece based on student poetry which we performed last November and I composed music for Antigone (Sophocles). I find words to be unspecific. Perhaps my vocabulary is just too limited. I have not written one poem since last September.
I have been learning computer programming. I have already written several programs to help me with the small amount of administrative work I have in my job. This will also be a summer job for me. I am creating an experimental data-retrieval system for our library. I will also be compiling statistics on college boards, etc. for our college guidance people. It has added a new dimension to my life.
