Craig,
Though I have always loved the seasons — been obsessed with them — summer has always taken such a toll on me. I hate its discomfort and priggish familiarity. It has been so long since I have written you or heard from you, it is stupid to try to relate any thing that has happened in that time. I am running a very active music program here at a small private school, gathering material things, writing music, growing.
I enclose a short story (in progress).
Please write. If you are ever in Connecticut — please come here — you are always welcome.

I wish I had taken him up on his offer. Right about this time, we had moved into our first house and were doing fix-up projects. Shortly after that, we started a family. If only our universe allowed us to be in multiple places at the same time. Or allowed us to go back in time and do things over. I have elected to withhold the short story he sent as it does not have Lawrence’s usual clarity. — CHC
