{"id":737,"date":"2017-09-22T22:13:14","date_gmt":"2017-09-22T22:13:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chcollins.com\/art\/?p=737"},"modified":"2017-10-06T13:38:35","modified_gmt":"2017-10-06T13:38:35","slug":"monongahela-national-bank-reimagined","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chcollins.com\/art\/2017\/09\/monongahela-national-bank-reimagined\/","title":{"rendered":"Monongahela National Bank Reimagined"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-703\" src=\"https:\/\/chcollins.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/MonBank-Brownsville1024-934x720.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"934\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chcollins.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/MonBank-Brownsville1024-934x720.jpg 934w, https:\/\/chcollins.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/MonBank-Brownsville1024-300x231.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chcollins.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/MonBank-Brownsville1024-768x592.jpg 768w, https:\/\/chcollins.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/MonBank-Brownsville1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 934px) 100vw, 934px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This instance of the Monongahela National Bank was located at <a href=\"http:\/\/swpare.blogspot.com\/2013\/02\/monongahela-national-bank-brownsville-pa.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">46 Market Street<\/a> in downtown Brownsville, Pennsylvania.\u00a0 Struggling to remain solvent during the Depression, the bank ultimately <a href=\"http:\/\/freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com\/~glenntunneycolumn\/column28.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">merged with the nearby Second National Bank<\/a> but this entity also failed and the bank closed its doors in April 1931.\u00a0 Other banks and businesses occupied the building in later years.\u00a0 It was home to First National Bank in 1947, followed by First National Bank of Fredericktown, First National Bank of Washington (Pennsylvania), and finally Integra Bank.\u00a0 The building closed for good in early 1991.<\/p>\n<p>Simply walking past the building today delivers an overwhelming smell of mold.<\/p>\n<p>I was able to capture the entire building from across the street, using my 16mm lens.\u00a0 Even then, I had to use Photoshop to produce this front-on perspective.\u00a0 While I was at it, I decided to render the bank as it might have appeared on a 1920s postcard.\u00a0 I added an optimistic blue sky and replaced nearby buildings and parking lots with trees.\u00a0 I spent the most time erasing telephone and power lines that crossed in front of the building &#8212;
