The martyrs.\r\nThe people who lived better lives than you and I.\r\nOr worse lives than you and I.\r\nThat's it.  They made their own lives worse -- by choice.\r\nThat's what makes them saint-worthy.\r\nAs opposed to those whose lives are worse -- by chance.\r\nThe unlucky multitude who do not become saints\r\nlive in obscurity in obscure parts of the world.\r\nUntil the saints visit them.\r\nAnd help them.\r\nAnd the saints become famous.\r\nAnd the obscure...\r\nThey have the privilege of being grateful.\r\n\r\nAnd then someone in Rome decides, it is time.\r\nLet us name new saints.\r\nTime to expand the Sainthood Hall of Fame.\r\nThere are never enough saints\r\nor great guitarists.\r\n\r\nThis very day\r\nthe Last of October\r\nthe Eve of All Saints Day\r\nthe Birthday of John Candy\r\nis an Official Feast Day for\r\n\r\n  St. Antoninus\r\n  St. Arnulf\r\n  St. Bega\r\n  St. Wolfgang\r\n  St. Erth\r\n  St. Notburga\r\n  St. Abaidas\r\n \u00a0St. Quentin\r\n\r\nI may be wrong but\r\nwas it St. Quentin who was in prison so long\r\nthey named a jail after him.\r\nI could be mistaken.\r\nAfter all, I am no saint.\r\nSt. Collins.  That would be ridiculous.\r\nAlmost as silly as the story of St. Notburga\r\nwho threw a sickle into the air\r\nas a dare\r\nand it remained suspended there.\r\nLook it up.\r\n\r\nAll Saints Day fast approaches.\r\nAre you ready to celebrate?\r\nCelebrate sad times, come on.\r\nYou remember All Saints Day.\r\nThe day after Halloween.\r\nThe day that the saints sweep greed\r\nand melting chocolate\r\nout of your hands\r\nand into their visionary fires.\r\n\r\nWhen mortals become saints\r\nthey line up to get their candy coating\r\nand get stamped with the letter m\r\n(which stands for miracle)\r\nand then a handful of them\r\nare sealed in a paper wrapper\r\nprinted with nutritional and devotional instructions\r\nfor our comfortable consumption.<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here come the saints.
