Prove it."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>[Updated August 17, 2013]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Like you, we go through our closets every year or so to collect clothes we no longer wear, and we donate them to our local Goodwill store.\u00a0 Unfortunately, Goodwill does not give away the clothes.\u00a0 It charges money for them, not much, just a few dollars per item, but it is still a barrier.<\/p>\n<p>When we lived in upstate New York, we gave our used clothes to Asbury Methodist Church, who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asburyfirst.org\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=148&amp;Itemid=231\">distributed them<\/a> to those in need, free of charge.\u00a0 I prefer this model: I wouldn&#8217;t want a few dollars to stand in the way between cold and warm.<\/p>\n<p>So I decided to google places in Asheville that provide free clothing to anyone who needs it. Here is a sampling of what I found.\u00a0 The text under each heading is <a href=\"http:\/\/asheville_nc.suntopia.org\/clothing.php\">verbatim<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our Shepherd&#8217;s Chapel<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Services: <\/strong>A warm winter coat will be provided for any child  <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">14 years or under<\/span>. A parent\/guardian must make initial contact (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">via  phone<\/span>) and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">child must be present<\/span> (at distribution location) to purchase  coat <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">with parent\/guardian, with Pastor<\/span> (or church representative).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Eligibility: <\/strong>Coats: Child age 14 and under; Income restrictions to be determined at phone call; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Picture ID and Social Security Card <\/span>required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clothing Closet, Salvation Army &#8211; Buncombe County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Services: <\/strong>Provides emergency food and clothing assistance to those in need <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">once  every three months<\/span> or as needed. Non-perishable items are available with  <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">formal interview<\/span> and screening.
