If I were to write a bible, it would be very short.\u00a0 None of that who-begat-who business or tales of desert tribes wandering in borderless lands.\u00a0 No, my bible would have one chapter and five verses, aspirations rather than commandments:<\/p>\n

1. Be kind to others.<\/p>\n

2. Be helpful to others, to the best of your ability.<\/p>\n

3. Enjoy life and make the most of it, as it is the only one you have.<\/p>\n

4. Be sparing in your judgments — no one died and elected you God.<\/p>\n

5. Be sparing in your advice — no one died and elected you Dear Abby.*<\/p>\n

I think that’s plenty for most of us to aspire to.<\/p>\n
