{"id":4492,"date":"2012-11-05T09:19:32","date_gmt":"2012-11-05T14:19:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/?p=4492"},"modified":"2022-08-01T07:43:16","modified_gmt":"2022-08-01T11:43:16","slug":"thoughts-at-large-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/2012\/11\/thoughts-at-large-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts at Large: 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2022 I was going to write a blog in response to a vile comment made on my son&#8217;s Facebook page by one of his old middle-school friends.\u00a0 But I decided against it.\u00a0 Everyone knows how much anger and hate there is in our world without my repeating it.\u00a0 The better thing for me is to offer an alternative.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Sign in front of our local pizza shop: &#8220;Whenever you lose hope, remember that God is still on the throne.&#8221;\u00a0 So, take comfort &#8212; even God gets constipated.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Which brings to mind the old riddle about immovable objects and irresistible forces&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 One more day.\u00a0 One more day until the start of the 2016 U.S. Presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 After the election, I&#8217;m going to have to buy a new TV remote control &#8212; the mute button has worn out.\u00a0 (That was a joke.\u00a0 I should send it to Jay Leno.\u00a0 I can picture him frantically pushing an imaginary mute button as the audience chuckles.)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The older I get, the less resilience I seem to have.\u00a0 Here I define resilience as the ability to deal with the everyday problems of life with a minimal expenditure of personal energy.\u00a0 One response to this is to try to avoid problems.\u00a0 But this is tantamount to avoiding life.
