Yesterday, Jon Ostendorff of Asheville Citizen-Times<\/a> reported this story (I have edited it for length):<\/p>\n A volunteer with the Buncombe County Republican Party is no longer handling the group\u2019s Twitter account after a post said President Barack Obama sounded “nervous, scattered, white\u201d during the debate.<\/p>\n Party spokesman Nathan West said the volunteer … was trying to make a point about how Obama is \u201cconstantly changing his language and cadence depending on what crowd he is pandering to at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis person in no way intended for this to be offensive to anyone, and if there are those who think otherwise, I would simply argue that they are looking for something that\u2019s not there,\u201d West said.<\/p>\n The Buncombe GOP criticized Obama throughout the debate with … tweets such as \u201csomebody gettin\u2019 his ass whooped!\u201d [and] \u201cenough about ya damn grandmother, already.”<\/p>\n Buncombe GOP Chairman Henry Mitchell said he had heard no other complaints about the message mentioning race other than questions from the newspaper.<\/p>\n The report says the volunteer relinquished access to the county GOP’s Twitter account, but it doesn’t say that the party reprimanded him or told him to quit.\u00a0 Most likely because neither of those things happened.\u00a0 Instead, the volunteer probably got a sympathetic pat on the back — after all, you don’t hear anyone complaining about it around here.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Buncombe County, North Carolina, is home to the city of Asheville.\u00a0 Nine out of ten county residents are white; one out of three are evangelical Protestants; one out of ten adults have not graduated from high school; and a handful … Continue reading
