Eight years ago, I posted an article here titled Gun 9-11 Day<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 That is the day each year when as many Americans have died from gun-related causes as, for horrific comparison, perished in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks — 2,977 to be coldly precise.<\/p>\n

[Some may remember the days when September 11 was the tragedy by which all others would be measured.\u00a0 That was before half-a-million Americans died of the coronavirus.]<\/p>\n

Eight years ago, Gun 9-11 Day — which does not include suicides — was April 23, 2013.\u00a0 This year, Gun 9-11 Day was February 28.*\u00a0 It gets earlier, and deadlier, every year, and still no one steps up and spearheads a serious plan to deal with it.<\/p>\n

Let’s speak the plain truth.\u00a0 The Second Amendment kills people.\u00a0 It is now our deadliest amendment.\u00a0 Our Supreme Court upheld it, even with the knowledge that these words let Americans shoot other Americans, because that’s what the words say.\u00a0 These words allow men who might not otherwise think of mass-shooting to plan it and execute it.\u00a0 There is no way around this — we value just about everything more than we do the people next door.<\/p>\n

The Second Amendment kills people.\u00a0 Over and over and over again.\u00a0 If, as many insist, guns do not kill people, then we must go after the words that do.<\/p>\n

Or, we can just keep burying our mistakes.<\/p>\n
