{"id":23750,"date":"2020-09-26T22:07:32","date_gmt":"2020-09-27T02:07:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/?p=23750"},"modified":"2022-08-01T07:42:46","modified_gmt":"2022-08-01T11:42:46","slug":"thoughts-large-71","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/2020\/09\/thoughts-large-71\/","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts @ Large: 71"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2022\u00a0 I still find it remarkable how humans developed the means to make and transmit sounds using pulses of electrons &#8212; not to mention our ability to comprehend what electrons are.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 My spouse and I have been homeowners for over 40 years.\u00a0 After we bought our first home, Mrs. Glassey, the departing owner, graciously left behind several gardening tools, among them a pitchfork, a garden rake, a sod spade and a round-point shovel.\u00a0 I use them all to this day.\u00a0 These implements have both heft and history.<\/p>\n<p>Trouble is, I now have doubts about the pitchfork.\u00a0 The last time I used it to loosen some plants for transplanting, its wooden shaft creaked and crackled, warning me that the next sound I would hear, if I were to strain any harder, would be a terminal snap.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, I have eased off but have not stopped using the pitchfork &#8212; nor have I thought about buying a new one.\u00a0 Because of its heritage, it is now pretty much a ceremonial tool.\u00a0 Is this not the height of irrationality?\u00a0 Do any of you have such objects?<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/wp-content\/uploads\/JMSmuckerCo-Logo-Anatomy-Breakdown.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-23863 size-medium\" style=\"margin-top: -18px;\" src=\"http:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/wp-content\/uploads\/JMSmuckerCo-Logo-Anatomy-Breakdown-300x141.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"141\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/wp-content\/uploads\/JMSmuckerCo-Logo-Anatomy-Breakdown-300x141.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/wp-content\/uploads\/JMSmuckerCo-Logo-Anatomy-Breakdown-768x360.jpg 768w, https:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/wp-content\/uploads\/JMSmuckerCo-Logo-Anatomy-Breakdown-640x300.jpg 640w, https:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/wp-content\/uploads\/JMSmuckerCo-Logo-Anatomy-Breakdown.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>This week, the J. M. Smucker Company, the well-known maker of jams and jellies, rolled out a new corporate logo and, along with it, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodbusinessnews.net\/articles\/16899-smucker-unveils-new-corporate-identity\">elaborate description<\/a> of what the logo&#8217;s various shapes and colors represent:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe red berry shape reflects our heritage and the values the company was built on,&#8221; said creative director Kara Buckler.\u00a0 &#8220;The green shape is our innovative mindset and ability to pivot to any challenge.\u00a0 The darker green represents our growth, teal is our people and culture, and purple represents the creativity that &#8230; will propel the company forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their jobs during this pandemic, but somehow, bullshit artists like Kara Buckler manage to get paid, more so for the bullshit than the art.\u00a0 For them, it&#8217;s just one more thing to jam down consumers&#8217; throats.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 When it comes to romantic tic-tac-toe \/ Some people make more exes than ohs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 We no longer need to get worked up over hypocrisy by politicians, now that the crime of hypocrisy has been lessened to simple misdemeanor.\u00a0 As we know, the usual sentence for misdemeanors is community service.\u00a0 And community service is an excellent resume item if you decide to run for office&#8230; \u00a0 Oy!\u00a0 This could be a problem.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/wp-content\/uploads\/under.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-23857\" style=\"margin-top: 2px; width: 200px;\" src=\"http:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/wp-content\/uploads\/under-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"136\" \/><\/a>\u2022\u00a0 The other day, my spouse came up with a clever idea for a new fashion item: day-of-the-week underwear for men.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.underwearexpert.com\/blog\/2015\/10\/underwear-choices-made-easy-cheapundies-days-week\/\">Already been done<\/a>, you say?\u00a0 Well, what makes her idea different, and more practical, than other day-of-the-week underwear is that every pair says &#8220;Saturday&#8221; &#8212; being that guys only change them once a week anyway.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 Whether we are with family, friends or strangers, I like asking others what they&#8217;ve been doing for fun, their current aspirations, books they&#8217;re reading, etc.\u00a0 Things that touch upon their mental\/creative lives and provides them an opportunity to reflect in a different way than the usual, &#8220;How&#8217;s work going?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This not only shows care for the other person but often ignites an interesting discussion.\u00a0 However, as these discussions usually go, (a) I rarely get asked questions about myself, and (b) the conversations generally drift off to impersonal topics like the news, weather, children\/grandchildren, television, Netflix.\u00a0 While my spouse likes to talk about children and grandchildren, she generally agrees that she gets asked few questions about herself.<\/p>\n<p>I have pondered this.\u00a0 Am I just narcissistic?\u00a0 Do I already volunteer so much information about myself that I kill interest and leave no room for questions?\u00a0 Or are people just not comfortable asking personal questions, even of those that they know?\u00a0 Or does it not even occur to folks to reciprocate?<\/p>\n<p>As Fred Rogers said, \u201cI\u2019m talking to you, so right now you are the most important person to me.\u00a0 Our conversation is the most important thing to me right now.&#8221;\u00a0 It&#8217;s too hard to be like Jesus was, but I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s beyond me to be more like Fred Rogers, or at least try.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2022\u00a0 \u2022\u00a0 \u2022\u00a0 \u2022<\/p>\n<p>This is the final day to enter my 10th Anniversary Giveaway!\u00a0 Follow <a href=\"http:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/2020\/09\/10th-anniversary-giveaway\/\">this link<\/a> for details and instructions on how to enter.\u00a0 Winners will be announced 1:00 <span style=\"font-size: 9.5pt;
