Dr. Scott<\/em>:\u00a0 Hi Wilson, good to see you again.\u00a0 Weren’t you here just a few weeks ago?\u00a0 Right before the election?<\/p>\n

Wilson<\/em>:\u00a0 Yeah, Doctor, you too, but I had to come in before my Obamacare gets cancelled.<\/p>\n

Dr. Scott<\/em>:\u00a0 Okay.\u00a0 So, I see you haven’t recently had a fall or visited a foreign country. What’s the problem today?<\/p>\n

Wilson<\/em>:\u00a0 I have an ache in my Muslim Bone.\u00a0 It starts…<\/p>\n

Dr. Scott [interrupting]<\/em>:\u00a0 Your what<\/em>?<\/p>\n

Wilson<\/em>:\u00a0 My Muslim Bone.\u00a0 Down here under my left ribs.\u00a0 [Wilson points.]\u00a0 <\/em>It starts to hurt when I watch the news after dinner and doesn’t really stop until I go to bed.<\/p>\n

Dr. Scott<\/em>:\u00a0 I, um… would you mind if I took a look?\u00a0 The discomfort starts at dinner time?<\/p>\n

Wilson<\/em>:\u00a0 Sure. [Lifts gown.]<\/em>\u00a0 Especially when they talk about hospitals getting bombed.\u00a0 And those refugees drowning in boats trying to cross to Italy.\u00a0 It just starts throbbing.<\/p>\n

Dr. Scott<\/em>:\u00a0 I don’t feel anything.\u00a0 I’m not quite sure what I can do about this.<\/p>\n

Wilson<\/em>:\u00a0 I was afraid you might say that.\u00a0 I guess you probably won’t be able to do anything about my case of Black Knee either.<\/p>\n

Dr. Scott<\/em>:\u00a0 I have never heard of Black Knee.<\/p>\n

Wilson<\/em>:\u00a0 Doctor Scott, I just can’t tell you, how weak I seem to get.\u00a0 Can hardly stand up.\u00a0 Every time a poor black person in a poor neighborhood — hell, even a rich black person in a rich neighborhood, isn’t that funny — anyway, they get stopped or shot, or stopped and then shot.\u00a0 My right knee, it just gets weak and I have to sit down.\u00a0 Aspirin doesn’t help and crying doesn’t help either.<\/p>\n

Dr. Scott<\/em>:\u00a0 It only hurts after<\/em> you hear that someone has been shot?<\/p>\n

Wilson<\/em>:\u00a0 Well, that’s the way it used to be.\u00a0 Now it’s in the air.\u00a0 Like the weather.\u00a0 I can feel it coming.\u00a0 My Black Knee starts to twinge.\u00a0 I can tell.\u00a0 The next day or so, another black man gets shot.\u00a0 These days, my knee just seems to hurt all the time.\u00a0 It’s crazy, just crazy.\u00a0 That’s why I’m here.\u00a0 Can’t you do something, Doctor Scott?<\/p>\n

Dr. Scott<\/em>:\u00a0 You know, Wilson, I think… no, I’m pretty sure that your problem is political and not physical.\u00a0 Maybe your pain has to do with voting for the wrong person.\u00a0 You know, sort of a dislocation of your mental joint.<\/p>\n

Wilson<\/em>:\u00a0 What?\u00a0 My mental joint?<\/em>\u00a0 Are you nuts?\u00a0 What kind of doctor are<\/em> you?\u00a0 I came here to get relief from my pain and you start talking to me about politics and things that make no sense at all!\u00a0\u00a0 Where are my clothes?\u00a0 I’m getting dressed and getting the hell out of here!\u00a0\u00a0 You doctors, you’re all alike.<\/p>\n

Dr. Scott<\/em>:\u00a0 Wilson, I was just trying to point out that your concerns might be…<\/p>\n

Wilson<\/em>:\u00a0 Hey, man — I<\/em> am the one who knows where my pain comes from!\u00a0 You<\/em> are the one who is supposed to do something about it.\u00a0 This is my<\/em> last visit with you<\/em>!\u00a0 [Wilson stuffs his arm in his jacket and storms from the room.]<\/em><\/p>\n
