{"id":11989,"date":"2015-11-27T19:07:07","date_gmt":"2015-11-28T00:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/?p=11989"},"modified":"2022-08-01T07:43:02","modified_gmt":"2022-08-01T11:43:02","slug":"no-400","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/2015\/11\/no-400\/","title":{"rendered":"No. 400"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is the 400th post on The 100 Billionth Person.\u00a0 I thought I would have arrived at this milestone a little sooner, but it&#8217;s been a busy year.\u00a0 I also decided this year to write fewer my-reaction-to-events pieces and more long-form walks through my garden of earthly interests.\u00a0 Both factors have reduced my post count &#8212; with mixed results, I think, but you be the judge of it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/wp-content\/uploads\/400bp.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-12012 size-full\" style=\"margin-left: 12px;\" title=\"The 400th Post on The 100 Billionth Person\" src=\"http:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/wp-content\/uploads\/400bp.gif\" alt=\"400bp\" width=\"260\" height=\"104\" \/><\/a>I did not compile a video retrospective to mark my 400th post as I did for my 300th (watch it <a href=\"http:\/\/chcollins.com\/100Billion\/2014\/04\/no-300\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>).\u00a0 First, there is the BTDT factor.\u00a0 But more than that, it would be too minor of a celebration for someone like Christopher Hitchens.<\/p>\n<p>It is his familiar and inviting yellow book-binding that I see once again on my side-table &#8212; this time, the work is <em>Arguably: Essays by Christopher Hitchens<\/em> (2011).\u00a0 This volume is his penultimate collection, comprising well over one hundred of his reviews, essays and editorials.\u00a0 Each bit of Hitchens I have read is <em>arguably<\/em> more substantial than any twenty of mine considered together.\u00a0 I enjoy and envy his expansive knowledge and fearless choice of interesting words.<\/p>\n<p>So some humility on my part is fitting and proper for my comparatively lesser level of talent.\u00a0 That said, with this post, I have published a (humble) total of 161,500 words on The 100 Billionth Person.\u00a0 This is the equivalent of one <em>War and Peace<\/em> by L. Tolstoy plus one <em>Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em> by V. Hugo plus one <em>The Brothers Karamazov<\/em> by F.
